7th Grade: A Year to Remember

On the first day of seventh grade, I was as scared as a cat in a dog pound. Actually I was MORE nervous than that cat. I was ready for seventh grade to be absolutely AWFUL.

I walked into the loud, crowded seventh grade hall ways prepared for the worst. But the worst never came! All my teachers and class mates were super nice. Seventh grade was going to be a challenge, but it was going to be a fun challenge. The seventh grade teachers give a TON of homework. After a bunch of late nights of studying, I figured out the key to seventh grade: TIME MANAGEMENT!!! By October, I got most of my homework and studying done at school. When I got home all I had left to do was a little studying and a blogpost!!

I’m actually sad this school year is coming to a close. Seventh grade has been a BLAST! I’ve learned how to write am expository, all about Texas’ history, a little bit of Spanish, and everything I need to know about the human body. I had so many great teachers and met a ton of new friends! My advice to next years to work hard, manage your time well, and have FUN! Oh, and stay out of the girl drama…there’s a LOT of that in seventh grade!!

Leaders who Changed the World🌍

Martin Luther King Jr.- Everyone knows his famous speech that changed history forever. Martin Luther King Jr. spent his life fighting for the equal rights of all people in America. He demonstrated great courage and bravery while striking against the unfair rights.

Susan B. Anthony- Susan B. Anthony gained women in America the right to vote. She fought hard to give women the same rights as men in a time when women were only allowed to work around the house.

Hatshepsut- Queen Hatshepsut was Egypt’s first female pharaoh and ruled for about 20 years. She dressed up as a man and completely changed the Egyptians view of female rulers. Today she is considered one of the most successful pharaohs.

Mahatma Ghandi- Ghandi fought to gain the Indian people freedom. While fighting, he used no violence. His method of leadership would influence many great leaders of the future including Martin Luther King Jr. and Nelson Mandela.

Abraham Lincoln- The president that led our country during the Civil war will always be remembered for his great leadership during the darkest time in American history. He abolished slavery, changing the lives of many Americans. He showed great determination,a quality all leaders.

Whether it’s a group project or a basketball team, everyday you have the opportunity to be a leader. Follow in the footsteps of the great leaders before you and lead those behind you.

My Favorite Poem

The Little Turtle

There was a little turtle.
He lived in a box.
He swam in a puddle.
He climbed on the rocks.

He snapped at a mosquito.
He snapped at a flea.
He snapped at a minnow.
And he snapped at me.

He caught the mosquito.
He caught the flea.
He caught the minnow.
But he didn’t catch me.

My American Girl Doll

I remember the day I received my first American Girl Doll. I was 5 years old and positive that I was a “big” girl. I ripped off the hot pink wrapping paper, not even bothering to open the card. I gasped in surprise. It was an AMERICAN GIRL DOLL!! I knew that this was NOT a doll for babies; it was definitely for big girls.

She was exactly 18 inches tall with beautiful long, blond hair that could be styled in almost any way. She was the prettiest doll I had ever seen. I played with her for hours and hours and hours. I collected all gorgeous clothes that each came with a pair of matching shoes. She could was a Hollywood movie star, an Olympic volleyball player and a super model. She could be anything!

Watching the YouTube video above reminds me of all the memories I had with my American Girl Doll; the tea parties, dress up, and dances. This 18 inch doll brought my dreams to life and gave me the gift of imagination and play.

Expository Writing- Why Gossip is Harmful

“Oh. My. Gosh. Did you hear what she did?!?!” Gossip can scar a person for the rest of their life.

To begin with, gossip can completely destroy friendships. Last year, my best friend and I got into a huge fight. We told other people rumors about each other, just to get revenge. This was NOT what friends were supposed to do. This ruined our friendship forever. Gossip can get in the way of any friendship- no matter how close you are.

Something else to keep in mind is that most of the time, gossip isn’t even true. Often times girls make up things to feel better about themselves. For example, someone said that my friend had “skipped class”, but she was actually home sick. Another example is that in Hollywood, a Star’s entire career can be destroyed by one innocent text or one cover story. Rumors spread quicker than wildfires, tearing friendships apart and ruining reputations.

“Oh. My. Gosh.” The next time you hear rumors, you might want to second guess them. Not everything you hear is true. In conclusion, gossip can be harmful and it can add more drama to your school life. Don’t start the gossip conflagration… Extinguish it!

Learning to Dance

Girls wore sparkly dresses, boys wore tuxedos, and everyone wore an expression that protested “I do NOT want to be here.” I guess I wasn’t the only one who’s parents had forced them to come to the dreadful class of Cotillion.

“… And 5, 6, 7, and 8” the dance teacher yelled over the roaring classical music. Her voice echoed in the empty, spacious room that reeked of many types of perfumes. She began to dance so fast I could barely see what she was doing. Her feet were flying. She showed us the dance only one time. I was expecting her to break it down and show us what to do, but instead she turned the music on and started to count. “Small steps,” she nagged. “Stand up straight,” she commanded. “Eye contact,” she yelled. “Focus,” she exclaimed. Her corrections were endless. We couldn’t do anything right. I kept tripping in the 4-inch heels I could barely walk in yet alone dance. I was as graceful as an elephant in ballet shoes performing the lead in the nutcracker.

Cotillion pushed me well beyond my comfort zone. It taught me so much more than how to ballroom dance. I learned that sometimes you have to do things you don’t want to at the time because they will help you in the long run.

The Championship Game

There I was, standing 30 feet away from victory. I glanced at the score board- 24 to 23. This was it.

Thousands of eyes stared me down- watching my every move.

No mistakes now…I thought as I drew my trembling arm back.

I toss the ball slightly to the right lining it up perfectly with my right arm. I hit the ball. No one moves. It hit the the tape. Time stood still. A stream of panic surged through my body.

The ball slowly rolled over the net… On to the other side. It hits the ground. ACE!!!!! The sound of the crowd vibrated through my head. A smile spread from cheek to cheek.

We had done it! We had won!

Winter

Everything is still. Frozen.

The ground is covered with a fluffy white blanked of snow. Tiny snowflakes dance in the sky. Each snowflake is unique and different. Icicles hang from plants, fountains, and playgrounds. Not a flower is in sight… only snow… and

All of a sudden a huge snowball hits me in the stomach. Where’d that come from? It’s hard to see anything through the thick white fog, but I spot my younger brothers neon orange jacket.

I bend down and begin to make a snowball. My hands are num. I can barely feel them.

I throw the snowball as hard as I can….. And

SPLAT!!

Christmas with the Grandparents

I am really excited because my grandma and grandpa are visiting us from Indiana! They are staying for a whole month and are going to celebrate Christmas with us. I love spending time with my grandparents.

My grandpa is really funny. He has the best stories to tell from when he was a young boy living on a farm and traveling all around the world in the air force. He always has really good advice and knows about literally everything?

My grandma is really sweet. She is always willing to help me, take me where I need to be, and even complain. When I was younger, she used to do arts and crafts with me. She taught me how to sew and paint.

This Christmas is going to be filled with memories with the people I love most, my family.
